Managing Director, Shanghai

Worrell is looking for a Managing Director for our Shanghai, China office. This is a leadership position supporting a dynamic team of designers and researchers, and an opportunity to define the next era of success for a world-class agency.

At a high level, you will manage financial and operational performance of all projects run out of China. You will call upon skills in project management and business strategy, as well as decision-making and problem-solving. Additionally, your role is charged with inspiring the team to build a culture around human-centered design.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Office Leadership

  • Monitor operational and financial performance and review targets with the leadership team on a quarterly basis
  • Directly manage the office manager, and provide direction for office administration
  • Approve all spending requests and act as local controller
  • Conduct performance reviews and career development planning with direct reports
  • Participate in the development and successful implementation of company policies and quality initiatives

Business Development

  • Direct strategy towards the profitable growth and operations
  • Close new business deals by coordinating requirements, developing and negotiating proposals, and integrate contract requirements with business operations
  • Establish and adjust prices by monitoring costs, competition, and supply and demand
  • Represent the company to major customers, professional associations and via speaking engagements at relevant events
  • Collaborate with HQ marketing to develop relevant and compelling digital content and case studies

Consulting

  • Provide oversight on project quality and client happiness
  • Leadership on client projects and contribute to deliverables when appropriate
  • Lead/assist presentations for client deliverables at major milestones
  • Lead/assist project management and coordination with project resources/external vendors

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Design, or related field
  • 3-5+ years experience in design consulting firm
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and expertise guiding teams and supporting the learning and development of individuals
  • Financial acumen: understanding of what drives cashflow and profits, reporting and metrics related to budget
  • Market orientation: deep understanding of client profiles and purchasing criteria
  • Business strategy: goal setting, problem solving, and action planning
  • Must be creative, adaptable, and humble
  • Always thinking of how today impacts tomorrow
  • Ability to frequently travel
