Human Factors Engineer

Worrell is currently seeking a passionate and talented Human Factors Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have relevant work experience in applying human factors principles to medical device and pharma development.

As a part of our Human Factors team you will work on a variety of projects to help identify usability issues, design usability engineering plans, conduct ethnographic research and participate in formative and summative usability studies, and prepare research reports based on findings. You will help a range of clients interpret and understand user feedback to improve the usability, safety and efficacy of the devices in development.

  • Can lead large, complex client projects from start to finish
  • Conduct a range of formative usability studies during concept development and summative usability studies for human factors validation
  • Define user needs/requirements, gathering activities including ethnographic research, use case analysis, and/or task analysis
  • Lead in analytical use risk analysis to predict and/or assess use error risk potential and identify design mitigations
  • Collaborate as needed with UI/UX & Service Design Researchers
  • Acts as a thought-leader and industry expert


  • Degree in Human Factors, Psychology, Industrial/Product Design or Biomedical Engineering
  • Understanding of current medical device Human Factors standards and FDA Guidance (ie. ISO/IEC-62366-1, ANSI/HE-75, etc.
  • Exceptional oral and written technical communication skills (technical writing background is a plus)
  • 3+ years of experience
  • Empathy and excellent communication with study participants – previous experience moderating usability studies
  • Encompasses a strong, self-motivated work ethic
  • Willingness to juggle several projects at once
  • Encompasses a positive attitude and good sense of humor
  • Willing to travel
  • Previous experience working for a Medical Device Design Consultancy and/or Manufacturer (desirable)
