Human Factors Engineer

Worrell is currently seeking a passionate and talented Human Factors Engineer to join our Minneapolis team. The ideal candidate will have relevant work experience in applying human factors principles to medical device and combination devices development. He/she will be asked to excel in a dynamic, fast-paced collaborative environment; this is not for the Corporate world lover!

As a part of our Human Factors group you will closely interact with all of the internal teams (HFE, Industrial Design, Research, Engineering and Marketing) on a variety of projects to help identify usability issues, design usability engineering plans, participate in formative and summative usability studies, and prepare research reports based on findings. You will help the team interpret and understand user feedback to improve the safety and efficacy of the devices in development.

  • Contribute during all phases of the product development cycle with particular emphasis on human factors engineering and usability assessment
  • Define user needs/requirements including ethnographic research, use case analysis, and/or task analysis
  • Conduct formative usability studies during concept development and summative usability studies for human factors validation
  • Participate in analytical use risk analysis to predict and/or assess use error risk potential and identify design mitigations


  • Hold a BS, BA or MA in Human Factors, Cognitive/Experimental Psychology, Kinesiology, Industrial Design or Biomedical Engineering with extensive human factors coursework
  • Understanding of current medical device Human Factors standards and FDA Guidance (ie. ISO/IEC-62366-1, ANSI/HE-75, etc.)
  • Exceptional oral and written technical communication skills (technical writing background is a plus)
  • 2-5 years of experience
  • Empathy and excellent communication with study participants
  • Encompasses a strong, self-motivated work ethic
  • Willingness to juggle several projects at once
