Typical Tier Two Hospitals

Challenge

Healthcare companies are beginning to open their eyes to the profound market opportunity represented in China. With an aging population, skyrocketing household income, and an increasingly educated base of healthcare professionals, China is a fertile growth market for medical technology companies.

Worrell engaged with a major division of Johnson & Johnson to explore the opportunities, with a focus on the needs of healthcare facilities and professionals on China interior. Worrell's China based research and design team traveled across tier 3 and 4 cities and met with the CEO's of hospitals, as well as the chiefs of medicine, nurses and patients. We observed first hand the challenges that confront these health care professionals and uncovered rich insights for Johnson and Johnson.

Worrell's study included a strategy element focused on how hospitals conduct business with local and international competitors as well as relevant case studies of successful foreign companies entering into mainland China to tap into one of the hottest growth markets in history.

Value Provided by Research

Worrell created a report including videography from the field, detailed surgical procedures, work-arounds, realities of healthcare procedures, professional interviews, and other rich contextual imagery. Worrell worked collaboratively with Johnson and Johnson and synthesized market research data including demographics, healthcare spending trends, per capita GDP, numbers of procedures regionally and economic information including the 2008 500million dollar stimulus packaged aimed at the regions we studied.

The output was a highly visual, data rich, and insight filled presentation that is fueling the launch of a suite of medical devices into this exciting growth market.
